Effects of Mechanical Properties of Steels on Dynamic Collapse Behavior of High Strength Steel Hat Columns

We investigated the relationship between material properties and axial collapse behavior of hat-section hollow columns made high-strength steels. Dynamic tests FEM simulations were conducted using steels with various tensile strengths n-values. Materials that exhibited yield point elongation (YPEl) underwent enhanced accordion-type deformation in owing to occurrence long wave buckling on hat walls early stage collapse. In addition, it was important avoid fracture initial region induce progressive crumpling behavior.
